During a hockey game, a player is killed in a freak accident after being hit with a puck by Trent. A few years later, Trent is still full of grief, and this grief has turned into an inner rage that he cannot shake. When he meets Fallon Little, a girl with a mysterious scar on her face, he begins to work through his guilt and anger and discovers a way to start over in middle school.
